Story of Anchaal Kumari Mahara: How KSK changed her perceptions!

Story of Anchaal Kumari Mahara: How KSK changed her perceptions!
 Stories

Anchaal Kumari Mahara (real name changed) lives with her family in the city of Janakpur. Her parents are farmers and they live a hand to mouth existence. Anchaal never got herself enrolled in school. When she was small she helped her mother with the household chores and now that she is 14 years old she is helping support her family by working in another household as a housemaid. This was her way of life until she was visited by the local Facilitator who convinced her to come to KSK at her most convenient time.

When Anchaal’s parents realized that KSK was free of cost, they decided to send Anchaal during the afternoon hours when she would be comparably free. Anchaal got enrolled at the KSK on 12th February, 2017. She was a shy and introverted girl and never spoke to anyone. She came with dirty clothes and had dirty hands and feet. Soon, the facilitators talked to Anchaal and a change could be seen in Anchaal which was gradual and progressive. She smiled more often and made friends with other girls at the center. She even shared her feelings with the facilitators and claims that KSK has changed the way she saw the world! She is a regular child and has attended the KSK for over 110 days spending 233 hours (Till Oct 2017) at the center. Despite her mother tongue being Maithali, she has learnt the basics in Nepali and Maths but however she finds English difficult. She loves to draw and read but she does not wish to join school. She however wants to learn sewing and have her own small shop.
